Mentaiko is a very popular ingredient in Japanese cuisine, often eaten with onigiri, sake. Japanese people also like it spicy. It is made of marinated hake roe, an ingredient that looks like clumped fish eggs. Introduced in Japan after the Russo-Japanese war, the hake roe comes from Alaska ("mentai" translates as "Alaska" and "ko" as "child").

Pretz are a range of pretzel-like snacks in sticks. They come in a variety of flavours, but are always very original.

The Japanese company Glico, creator of Pocky, is one of the most famous confectioners and creators of snacks in Japan.
