Japanese curry, called "kare" or "kari" in Japan, is one of the most popular and widely consumed dishes in the country. It is thicker, milder, and less spicy than Indian curry. The ingredients commonly used to make it are meat, potatoes, carrots, onions, and, for an even milder, slightly sweeter flavor, apples and honey can also be added.

In Japan it can be found in two forms: in cubes, where you will actually have to cook the curry, or in a ready-made sachet to cook in renji (a Japanese microwave option) or in a pan of boiling water.

Valmont Curry is one of Japan's most popular cubed curries and is sold nationwide.

Ingredients: Edible oils and fats (beef fat, pork fat, palm oil), wheat flour, sugar, salt, starch, curry powder, defatted soybeans, processed cheese, roasted onion powder, honey, pork extract, sesame paste, milk powder flour roux, tomato seasoning, yeast extract, sauce powder, banana paste, cocoa, butter and milk powder, tomato powder, apple paste, whole milk powder, onion extract, spices, garlic powder, stir-fried vegetable paste, processed soy sauce, glucose, cheese, seasoning (amino acids), colors (E150, E160), emulsifier, acidifier, flavoring, spice extract, contains chicken and pork

Preparation (for 12 servings):

  • Ingredients: 1 can of Valmont mild curry, 500g of meat (beef or pork, possibly chicken), 800g of onions, 450g of potatoes, 200g of carrots, 2 tablespoons of oil, 1400ml of water (or 1250ml if you put a lid on the pan)
  • Roughly chop the meat, onions, potatoes and carrots, then put them in the pan and cook them in the oil until the onions become tender.
  • Add water and simmer over low or medium heat until all ingredients are cooked through (about 15 minutes after boiling) / If you choose to add honey, simmer for 20 minutes after boiling (instead of 15 minutes without honey)
  • Add all the curry cubes after stopping the cooking and let them dissolve in the water (do not hesitate to mix a little to help the dissolution)
  • Turn the heat back on (low heat) and simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.
